Account of stewardship: Onwubuariri empowers constituency

…Says “with the people behind me, my second term is assured

Member representing Okigwe, Onuimo & Isiala Mbano Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Engr. Obinna Kingsley Onwubuariri over the weekend performed one of his legislative duties as he empowered over 284 persons from his constituency.

The event, christened “Hon. Obinna Onwubuariri Empowerment Programm, Phase 1”, took place at Amaraku Central School in Isiala- Mbano and has the presence of people from all walks of life, even as the physically challenged were not left out from the largesse.

Speaking at the venue, Hon. Onwubuariri said he embarked on the program as a fulfillment of his campaign promises to his people, pointing out that, even if he moves all the motions and sponsors all the bills without empowering the people, they would still complain since those things were not the only reasons they elected me.”

He informed that the empowerment program was the Phase. According to him, “the second phase will come soonest, just as he said he was praying to God for the grace to enable him carry out at least 90% of all he promised his people.

Onwubuariri, who is the House Committee Chairman on Nigeria/Serbia Relations, further appealed to Nigerians to give the present government at the federal level more time to stabilize, stating that in no distance time, things would become better as it was before now.

On the ban of foreign rice,the youngest lawmaker said, “I am in total support on the ban of foreign rice. “Before now, I have banned the consumption of foreign rice and resorted to local rice in my house as a means of patronizing the agricultural produce in Nigeria. Patronizing our products would steer us out of the economic recession in the country.”

“I want to perform so well that the people who elected me will say thank God that we elected someone like Hon. Obinna Onwubuariri to represent us at the Federal House of Representative. It will make my second term as their representatives an easy one.

Furthermore, he believes the leadership crisis in his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP will soon be over, adding that the party will come out stronger after the tussle. The lawmaker who holds a Bachelors’ degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, FUTO, noted that the event was to make his constituents enjoy the dividends of democracy from this present government.

“As a first timer it might not be easy, but God in his infinite mercy is seeing me through.” Chairman of the occasion, Senator Godwin Ararume described the event as apt, bearing in mind the economic situation in the country and, stressing that the empowerment program by Onwubuariri was unprecedented in the history of the area. He said what the lawmaker did was worthy and should be encouraged.

Ararume who was represented by Barrister Emma Nwosu further stated that Onwubuariri as a representation to the people of Okigwe North is devoid of political party affiliations, noting people came from different divides to actualize the empowerment program and appealed to the Amaraku born federal lawmaker not to relent in his efforts in appreciating the people that gave him their mandate.

Father of the occasion, Chief Ikedi Ohakim, also informed the constituency that the event was not a party issue, but a time a lawmaker tries to give account of his stewardship to the people. He revealed that he would not have attended the occasion if Hon. Onwubuariri was not doing well.

The immediate past Governor of Imo State stated that he adopts all the goodwill messages extended to the lawmaker as published on the event brochure, saying they were true reflection of the attitudes of Obinna Onwubuariri.

Alhaji Yakubu Dogara, Speaker, House of Representatives, Abuja, described Onwubuariri as a vibrant lawmaker who has contributed positively to the activities of the lower house adding that for his people to have elected him above all other contestants, it was a clear testimony of his ingenuity and sagacity.  Hon. Chike Okafor presented the speaker’s goodwill on the occasion.

Chika Ibegbulam, Emilia Amadi, Ugboaja Chioma, Chimezie Agbapuruonwu, Ifeanyi Iwueke, Uchenna Alagboso, and Ifeyinwa Oti who were some of the beneficiaries expressed happiness over the magnanimity of the legislator, saying the assistance came at the right time, even as they prayed for his good health and eventful tenure till 2013.

Items distributed at the occasion were Barbers’ equipment with generating sets, Motorcycles, Hair driers with generating sets, Wheel chairs, and Sewing machines among many others.

Dignitaries that attended the occasion were: Chief Eddy Nwosu, the Director General, Liberation For Change, the campaign arm of the legislator. Rt. Hon. Nnanna Igbokwe, member representing Ahiazu/Ezinihitte Federal Constituency in the House of Representative, Hon. Deacon Chike Okafor, member representing Okigwe South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Chief Uche Nwosu, Chief of Staff, Government House Owerri, Chief  Victor Mbagwu, Hon. Chief Maria Mbakwe, State woman leader, PDP, Imo state, Hon. Chima Njoku, the Legislative Aide to Hon. Obinna Onwubuariri and Hon. Ezirim Chigozie ( Nature), Youth Leader, Ugirinna Autonomous Community among others.
