Continued detention of Kanu

By Chinedu Egere

There is an uneasy calm in Aso Rock as Biafra agitators take their protest to London. The continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu, the Director of Radio Biafra has generated fresh crisis and portrayed the present Nigerian government as a ship without a competent hand.

The indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB) has successfully organized another protest, this time in London streets, which attracted the sympathy of many Nigerians who in their thousands took to the streets and joined in the London protest.

The protest is against the continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu in Nigeria. This development is said to have brought an uneasy calm in Aso Rock following the continuous protests and demanding the release of Kanu, the Radio Biafra Director, who was arrested in Lagos by the men of the Department of State Security Service. His arrest followed his broadcasts on Radio Biafra in London which the DSS, tagged hate broadcasts and slanderous.

The IPOB, according to reports has the intention to use the protests to influence the release of their detained leader but the Buhari led Federal Government has remained adamant and incidentally, fueling more protests that have instead continued to create more awareness of the group and making a hero of their leader, Nnamdi Kanu, whom nobody knew before his arrest, except family members, members of his group and a few intimate friends.
