Kennedy Boboye confident Akwa United will survive relegation despite struggles

Akwa United’s head coach, Kennedy Boboye, remains optimistic about his team’s prospects of avoiding relegation in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), despite their current challenges. As of Match day 17, Akwa United sits at the bottom of the league standings with 16 points from 17 matches, reflecting a season fraught with difficulties.

The Promise Keepers have endured a series of setbacks, including a recent 2-1 defeat by Bayelsa United. In that match, Akwa United initially took the lead through Chijioke Alaekwe in the 23rd minute, but Bayelsa United responded with goals from Sadiq Auwal and Yahaya Ibrahim, resulting in Akwa United’s eighth consecutive loss on the road.

Boboye, who previously led Akwa United to their first NPFL title in 2021, was reappointed earlier this season in an effort to steer the team away from the relegation zone. His experience and familiarity with the club are viewed as vital assets in this challenging period.

The coach acknowledges the gravity of the situation but remains steadfast in his belief that the team can turn their fortunes around. He emphasizes the importance of focusing on each match, improving performance, and capitalizing on scoring opportunities to secure much-needed points.

Boboye also highlights the crucial role of fan support during this tumultuous time. He urges supporters to continue rallying behind the team, as their encouragement can serve as a catalyst for improved performances on the pitch.

Looking ahead, Akwa United faces a series of critical fixtures that will determine their NPFL fate. Boboye is committed to leveraging his experience and implementing strategic adjustments to navigate the team through this adversity, with the ultimate goal of retaining their top-flight status.
