Sallah tips Nigeria, Egypt to excel in Russia

Newly-crowned Africa Footballer of the Year (2017) in Africa, Mohammed Salah, has tipped Nigeria and his country Egypt to make the continent proud at the forthcoming World Cup in Russia. Sallah who won the award ahead of Senegal’s Sadio Mane and Gabon’s Pierre-Emerrick Aubameyang was optimistic about the chances of African teams especially Egypt and Nigeria. He said football had developed so well on the continent such that Africans can compete favourably with the rest of the world. Sallah said: “Players in other teams play with us in our respective clubs and all we need is to work hard as a unit to get results.

“For Egypt, our plan is to go all the way because our country has waited so long to participate in the World Cup.” On the chances of other countries, Sallah said African football had developed so well to compete at global stage. “I expect African teams to spring surprises in Russia but for a country like Nigeria, they have the experience and quality players to do very well just like Egypt.

“Generally, I believe the forthcoming World Cup will be one of the best for Africa as a continent.” Apart from Egypt and Nigeria, Senegal, Tunisia and Morocco are other countries representing Africa at the Russia 2018 World Cup. The big football fiesta takes place between June 14 and July 15 later in the year.
