Why there is a drop in power supply — Ikeja Electric
March 23rd, 2026
Nigerian power distribution company, Ikeja Electric, has explained the ongoing decline in electricity supply, linking it to a nationwide reduction in power generation.
In a statement on Monday, the company said the situation is largely driven by limited gas supply to thermal power plants, which has significantly affected electricity production across the country.
It noted that the drop in generation has reduced the volume of energy available on the national grid, leading to lower allocations to distribution companies, including Ikeja Electric.
According to the update, the development has directly impacted the amount of electricity available for distribution to customers within its coverage areas.
The company expressed regret over the inconvenience caused by the situation and appealed for patience from customers as efforts continue to manage the available supply.
Ikeja Electric also stated that it remains committed to distributing the limited power as efficiently and fairly as possible during the period.
“Dear Valued Customer. The ongoing reduction in electricity supply is largely due to a nationwide drop in power generation, caused by limited gas supply to thermal power plants.
“This has significantly reduced the energy available on the national grid and, consequently, the allocation to Ikeja Electric and other distribution companies.
“As a result, the volume of electricity available for distribution has been impacted.
“We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused by this development and appreciate your patience and understanding during this period.
“We remain committed to distributing the available power as efficiently and equitably as possible.” (Nigerian Tribune)
